Astonishing feat! US will break its record for the warmest Christmas by ~5°F! That’s remarkable. Anomalies are up to +40°F in the nation’s middle and as you can see the US has the warmest air - relative to average - in the World! H/T to @BenNollWeather

The last week of 2025 will bring us the strongest windstorm of the year. Forecasted maximum gusts of ~140 km/h (39 m/s) and the affected area are more or less similar to the recent extreme northerly windstorms in Finland (Aapeli 2019, Lyly 2024).

Pretty impressive mini-supercell thunderstorms over Monterey Bay right now with a tight rotational couplet and even a bit of a hook echo. This cell is likely producing a waterspout, and is headed for Santa Cruz area. A brief tornado is possible when it makes landfall.

Well, it has turned into a sleepless night for many in the SF Bay Area due to severe weather. Squall lines containing severe thunderstorms have brought torrential rain (leading to flash flooding) and damaging wind gusts of 60-80 mph. Lots of NWS warnings out. Quite a storm!

Parts of SoCal have reached the 1-in-50 to 1-in-100 year recurrence interval (purple/ magenta). This means the chance of an event this extreme in these specific isolated areas is only 1-2% in any year. Several inches have piled up, heavy rain persists, and run off from higher elevations continues.

TRILOBITE BEETLES!!! 😍🌿 Some of the coolest bugs in Asia’s rainforests are these female Lycid Beetles, that look like they’re from prehistoric ages!😱🦕 They retain their larval form as adults and feed on decaying matter in the leaf litter of the forest! 🍂 I get goosebumps every time I see them! 😁

Warmest Christmas 🎄 on record?! Watch as two smaller heat domes combine to form a Huge Christmas Heat Dome - the most intense on record in the Nation’s middle. Half of US States will set heat records. 100s will fall! The only escape will be the West Coast and Northeast.

Although NorCal flood issues so far have mostly been minor, an exception is near Redding in northern Sac Valley. A narrow but persistent & stationary band of torrential downpours associated w/convergence zone has resulted in significant & still-escalating flash flooding.

I've put together my predictions for 2026 and 2027 temperatures over at The Climate Brink. I expect 2026 will likely end up similar to 2023 and 2025 at ~1.4C, while 2027 will likely be considerably warmer (conditional on El Nino):
