Itās weird how the āyoungā Republicans are actually full-grown men and JD Vance treats them as children who shouldnāt face consequences for their racism, misogyny, or xenophobia. But pregnant 12-year-old little girls are treated as adults and must literally bear the consequences of rape and incest.

It's all so fucking grim. Eugenics and misogyny all wrapped in one sold by disinformation that benefits grifters. I honestly don't know how we get out of this.

Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.

Once again, this is a massive public jobs program for fascists. This bill was never just about tax cuts and gutting social services. It's about investing our collective resources in violence and using state power to spread fear and destroy solidarity. We need to resist this with all we've got.

What happened to parental rights? Why do six justices think that politicians can override expert medical opinions? If parents consent to care their children want and need, when that care is safe and necessary, that should be that.

Some thoughts about the military parade in my hometown of Washington DC today -- specifically, the route. Military parades in DC are quite rare. But when they happen, they have always begun, symbolically and geographically, at the Capitol and moved outward. 1/

This is how patronage systems work in totalitarian transition. Claw back all resources and then (in showy performances of beneficence) bestow them selectively to supplicants now in your debt. What once were public services become private favors.

If you're only following this "debate" through popular media you probably have the impression that studies on youth gender medicine are roughly split between benefits and harms. Nope! Nearly every study finds benefits. The "debate" is just a bunch of people going, "Those don't count."

I think there are lot of well-meaning non-trans people who think gender-affirming care is a luxury or aspirational thing, like dental veneers or nose jobs. "Sure, it'd be nice if trans folks had this care but they don't need it, do they?" Yes. It's literally lifesaving. It's suicide prevention.

When I wrote my camps book, people sometimes had difficulty understanding how concentration-camp regimes were proud of what they were doing and wanted attention for it, even as they also hoped to keep many aspects secret and terrorize vulnerable classes. Anyway, this is what that looks like.
