If you do not support trans people - by actively dedicating your time and money (if you have it) and voice to their cause - you are a failure of morality and humanity and you are not just a bystander but a culpable participant in one of the most violent attempts at eugenics of our time.

3. Although I think I see the point OP is trying to make, it's dangerous to simplify historical eugenics and we should never write off present day concerns over gene editing, etc. We should *always* question why we are doing something and explore all the potential ramifications of these decisions.

They did this through things like eugenic marriage laws, better baby contests, and fitter family contests. Some of this is certainly about preventing disease, but most of it is about preserving & supporting white supremacy. Only white protestant babies, for example, could win a better baby contest.

More commonly, American eugenicists believed in what some scholars call "positive eugenics." Not "positive" as in "good," but rather encouraging the "right" people to have more babies and trying to encourage the "right" genetic traits to be passed down.

NOW, it's a pseudoscience because it's been debunked & is no longer mainstream scientific thinking. Calling historical eugenics a pseudoscience lets science & scientists of the past off the hook (Also, PS is more of a modern-day term. We had terms like "quackery" but eugenics was not that)

There is no balance required, you just trust people. Because disabled people are met routinely with mockery, suspicion, neglect, discrimination and outright hate, we do not feed the ableism machine with more suspicion. If a few people get away with ‘cheating the system’ that’s just how things are.

It's always such a disappointment to see that it's not just MAHA that sees autistic people as damaged goods. Anyway, the world is a better place with autistic babies in it, and it would be amazing to see autism causation studies start to screen parents for autistic traits or take family histories.

We need to be able to see that the line "accommodations have gone too far" is an expression of the ableist notion that disabled students do not belong in higher ed. Its fundamentally an anxiety about the fact that disabled students get an "advantage" over abled students.

The doubt about students needing accommodations goes along with the other suspicious questions like, "Are autism and ADHD being overdiagnosed?" "Is Long Covid real?" when the people accessing these accommodations and diagnoses have to work our butts off to get any recognition or support at all.
