I didn't understand this fully until I got cancer & am trying to recover from the surgery. I have such random pain. It comes out of nowhere, issues with my pelvis and leg & suddenly I can't walk properly becauseit hurts. It's truly embarrassing to be around people when it happens. I try to hide it.

I've spent the last 6 years getting comfortable with identifying as disabled, after spending my first 35 years denying it even to myself. It wasn't easy! We live in a society that fundamentally hates disabled people and thinks our lives are worthless, so embracing the identity is a big choice.

Fund the arts because they are a source of joy and human happiness and thought. Not just because a scientist may get an idea off a line in a play. (Though that's great too.)
