When Oz says “things your family used to do for you” he’s talking about unpaid, undervalued, mostly female labor back in a time when fewer women had to work outside the home, and families were also much bigger. It’s misogynistic as hell, and ignores today’s economic realities.

Or, to put it more bluntly: "Rich people could pay less in taxes if only women would do more unpaid labor at home."

And if we push more other family care onto women, forcing them to "choose" to stop working, many women may feel as if they might as well have another child to further justify not working, especially if their partner wants more children, as @jessicacalarco.com found. Sneaky pronatalism at work!

If you're in the U.S., and you're a caregiver or a human being who is aging, Medicaid is a key lifeline. Long-term care/services are not covered under Medicare and many older adults spend down their assets before becoming eligible for Medicaid, which is the major payor for HCBS and LTSS.
