turns out gaussians can have a near zero cost fake motion blur :D just orient them towards the direction of motion, move them to centerpoint between last frame and current frame, then stretch!! and don't forget to reduce the opacity :D

I think this is good advice, but I'd also say it depends a bit on what you're making. If you're building foundations for something, then you do want to make it good first, because it'll be hard to do later. Once you lay stuff on top of foundations, they become very hard to change and improve.
