Few years ago the family gave my husband a course of bread making lessons. Best gift we ever gave him. 😉

England has a deeply troubling far-right problem that Keir Starmer is simply not opposing. This has to stop, none of this is about free speech, it is fascism, and it’s out of control. 1/2

Oregon has passed a bill to protect school libraries from book bans.
Another win for freedom to read legislation on the West Coast this week, as Oregon’s state House of Representatives passed Senate Bill 1098 on Monday, a bill that will protect access to books in school libraries. It’s great news: books can no longer be banned solely because they discuss sexuality, religion, or other topics, nor […]

This is not a 'path'; it is a main commuting artery to the city centre, provides important access to the Western General, and links to many schools, playing fields, and other sites.

So many delays, and so much money wasted on consultations for grand overly ambitious projects, rather than small spends on bollards, bus gates, etc, which would save lives and make active commutes far better.

The thread about the Corstorphine Convalescent Home; “To the Glory of God, for the Welfare of the Poor”
The old Corstorphine Hospital was in the news this week as, after a decade of lying empty and abandoned, it finally succumbed to the firebugs. Fortunately the Fire Brigade were quick to bring things under control, saving a sadly neglected and overlooked building that tended to the health and well-being of City for almost 150 years. This thread looks at how the "Home" came to be and how it evolved slowly over time into a specialist hospital for geriatric care

Call for MP take cuts stance
Seven councillors have signed a letter calling on Edinburgh South West’s Labour MP to oppose proposed cuts to disability benefits being considered at Westminster. The letter says that Scott Arthur, an Edinburgh councillor until 2024, has previously voted for cuts that ‘impoverish constituents’, with all seven councillors representing wards in Arthur’s constituency. Ross McKenzie, an independent councillor for Sighthill/Gorgie, said: “Scott Arthur is a very visible constituency MP – you’ll see photos of him all over social media attending events and meeting with people, but he doesn’t like to talk about how he votes when he goes down to London.

I took a large carrier bag of books along to my local Cancer Research charity shop , but didn't make it out without this little haul. Still, at 5 books for £1, all in as new condition, it would have been rude not to, right?
