The way the word elites has become devoid of all meaning is interesting. It’s a placeholder for “someone I don’t like” and it fascinates me that the people who use it most are wealthy, went to “elite” schools and hold positions of power. Look in the damn mirror. You’re talking about yourself.

It’s very funny to me that countries are trying to pass laws banning teens from social media until they’re older and can “handle it” as if the last decade hasn’t been about watching rich middle aged men nuke their brains on Twitter and then run the USA via shitpost.

Remember in 2000 when Al Gore was repeatedly misquoted as having said he invented the internet and that was seen the eyes of many as disqualifying him from office? Simpler times. Today, Trump makes up lies equivalent to "I invented the internet" 30 times a week and no one bats an eye. Good job media

one thing i find crazy-making is the idea that getting rid of the filibuster would make congress a purely majoritarian institution. bicameralism itself is counter-majoritarian! equal state representation is counter-majoritarian! the fact that senate elections are staggered is counter-majoritarian!

The cat mayoral race: meet 11 runners and riders in the US’s most furious – and furriest – election
It has been the talk of Somerville, Massachusetts this summer, with the winner announced later today. Will it be the candidate who promises free kibble or the one who speaks gnomically of ‘CRIME’?

One of the great weaknesses of the democracy coalition is that it's got a lot of people who think that if an election isn't tomorrow and isn't for president, nothing matters. The GOP build up its political reserves by planning and always voting in GOPers at every level in every election.
