Hello Stephen. I am rereading Wilkie Collins at the moment. As I plough anew through the various irritants in The Moonstone, I am consoled by the fact that the book’s ostensible plot provides, as many second-rate books do, an inadvertent tour of the class, gender and racial prejudices of its time.

I have just finished this incredibly powerful, moving, raw, honest - I could go on and on. Honestly … what a read 🙏📖 I cannot recommend it enough.

Just finished the very enjoyable Doing Time by Jodi Taylor. Now reading Jules Cassidy, P.I. by Suzanne Brockmann. Jules has quit the FBI due to its new homophobic policies. He and ex-SEAL Sam Starratt are looking for a young woman who inherited the fortune of a Hollywood mogul. Plot twists abound!

I am reading Seamus Heaney's translation of Beowulf. A first for me, though I vaguely know the story through cultural osmosis. Thought it would be good to read the epic poem for myself.

The Hollow Boys by Tariq Ashkanani. The Midnight king absolutely blew me away. This is utterly brilliant, i think he might be one of the best this country has got. Incredible premise and he pulls it off.

On to The Saints of Salvation, conclusion of Peter F. Hamilton's Salvation trilogy, and oh dearie me, what has happened to the human race is truly horrific and distressing. But their super-cool quantum-entangled portals are proving very handy, and timelines are converging, so there may yet be hope..

Good morning! I'm reading Ada Palmer's Inventing the Renaissance. I thought I'd dip in and out of it between other reads but it's so engaging I think I'll just read straight through.

I just finished “Free Throws, Friendship, and other things we messed up” by Jenn Bishop - great YA story set in basketball crazy Cincinnati where my daughter just moved.

Here’s one I likely should have read about 45 years ago. Started it yesterday. The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger.

I’m about 1/5 the way into ‘Ring of Swords’ by Eleanor Arnason. Only picked it up because of Ursula le Guin’s quote/review: “At last, a non-predictable, thought-through, can’t-stop-reading-it story full of complicated and irresistible people, some of them human… Enjoy! Enjoy!” So far so good!!
