Playing with tones on this one as I draw the next. Next one, is one that Sime also illustrated so trying to go very much in my own direction. Going head to head with Sime is..unthinkable.

Have decided that I am going to include the Current Lord Dunsany in one of the illustrations. Sword of Welleran? He would make a fine young Iraine . Metal eco bard, working to rewild Ireland. Hell yes.

Holds up pretty well, I think. Wish I were using the mixed media back then, though. One of the best things about living in the UK is getting to be in the same room as Pre Raphaelite paintings. They still make me breathe funny. Every time.

I am gladly surprised when I stop for a moment and realise I've come to the point in my career where I have the luxury of only illustrating books and themes that I love. (And am very, very busy doing so) Feels like overnight success but really took about 40 years.

Right. First one done in pencil, paint, chalk and White pen. I really, really hope this is as good as I think it is but I won't know for probably a week. Will colour this and draw my next book cover now.
