This is an excellent analogy, because my recollection from grade school is that the pen on the right looks fun and exciting, and then you play with it for a few minutes and realize it's not actually useful for anything and in fact makes some tasks more cumbersome, and never think about it again.

A friend just sent me a screenshot of an ebook they’re reading on Tolkien and I was reading the excerpt like dang this is great, whoever wrote this is so insightful but… it feels… familiar… until I realized it was MY OWN BOOK they were reading an advanced copy of HAHAHA

More people should follow @digitaltolkien.com. It's the most useful site for studying the books, and it's pretty cool, too. The work James and his team have done really makes my work on Tolkien easier. If I wonder how JRRT uses a certain word or words, this site is my first stop.

I’m flying over to Dallas this evening to join in the festivities of the @prancingponypod.bsky.social moot tomorrow! I’ll be there with free goodies and information about my book, which releases in February. I’m so excited to catch up with friends and meet new ones as well! ❤️

I printed off the final pdf of my book so that I can highlight talking and discussion points, but I’ve just found myself highlighting and enthusiastically leaving notes in the margin as these thoughts didn’t all come out of my own brain lol
