While new rich folk can get nicer things and have rebuilt power, they are heavily taxed, and there’s the unspoken threat “earn it or else” so decadence and hoarding is discouraged. Some bad guys aren’t happy with this.

#WIPSnips Late in the story, an attempt at spying leads to an attempt to try and get the bad guy’s enforcer to consider abandoning the treasure hunt. It didn’t work.
