I prefer fictional worlds. Again, having real-life references helps a lot in creating my own lands. Orasan, for example, has inspiration from mountainous regions in Russia, Romania, and Ukraine, but it's also a city designed for a winged species, so it's very fun to think about how it works.

I do create a lot of fictional languages, but mostly at basic level. I'm no Tolkien, and to go beyond that would require studies that I'm not interested in right now. What I like to do is give readers a sense of culture and expression, and for that, a few grammatical rules to add consistency go...

For main characters, I usually like to spread information around to make it more natural unless I have a good reason to mention more traits at once. For example, you know Ashrah has brown skin and purple eyes because I repeat that information a few times during the story in moments where either...

Emotions. I love writing fighting scenes, dialogue, describing unique settings, etc. But if there's no layer of emotion there, it feels... empty. I need to connect with the emotion(s) the characters are going through, and they must have meaning.

Taking any of Ashrah's main traits away from her—her pride, her obsession, her rage, her iron WILL—would drastically change everything. And that I know for sure 😅
