I'm as certain that this is AI as I am certain that they didn't hire a professional letterer. What's a shame is that something like this would have been the perfect opportunity to commission some fan artists! Can you imagine how much good publicity that would have gotten them?

There are literally hundreds of amazing Trek comics out there. Even if it turns out they didn't use AI here (which I'm pretty fucking sure they did) there's no reason to draw something new that looks like thoughtless slop.

I hope this isn’t true. Even putting creative ethics aside, the cost to hire a real artist to draw those pages – even if you paid them top comics industry rates – is less than pocket change to the budget of a prestige show like STA.

'Starfleet Academy' using AI slop for the comic book depicted rather prominently on screen in episode six has me really perturbed. I'm sure it was a cost cutting measure as opposed to hiring an artist to bang out some quick pages, but it looks terrible.

So, apparently the Star Trek wiki, Memory Alpha, has settled on "SA" on the abbreviation for 'Starfleet Academy'. It's a good thing there isn't another fairly common usage on the internet for that particular initialism. Oh.... Oh no!

I consider it a personal failing whenever I mention 'Avatar' and the person with whom I'm speaking assumes I mean the James Cameron films, and not the cartoons about overcoming fascism through the combined power of martial arts and friendship.
