It's just remarkable that if you're white, male, and conservative you are allowed to call for political violence that would get anyone who doesn't tick all those boxes absolutely pilloried. The group with the fewest legitimate grievances in society provided the widest grace to rage. Wild.

Prevention is only visible when you break it. Drinking water treatment and pasteurization played a critical role in the elimination of typhoid along with other diseases. Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.

9/ This is an enormous reminder that eradication isn't permanent without continued investment. We eliminated screwworm. I said it last week and I'll say it again- keeping threats at bay requires funding, surveillance, expertise, and long-term commitment. Prevention only works when we keep doing it.

1/ Five cases of New World screwworm have now been confirmed in the U.S., Texas has declared an emergency, and Canada immediately restricted livestock imports. Most people had never heard of screwworm until last week (or maybe just now). That's because we eradicated it from the U.S. in 1966.🧵

When people say X doesn't have a racism problem, they don't see the mental maps that POC - especially Black people - craft to avoid being in places that are unsafe. Years ago a journalism organization asked me why they had such a huge drop off in Black attendance between two conferences.
