When the Trump administration chooses to dismantle the system to monitor ocean currents, part of an ongoing attack on science and knowledge more generally by the federal government, I sure wish experts would not say this reflects a lack of understanding. It’s informed bad intent, not ignorance.

I'm heartbroken to see this news of Dr. Raúl Pacheco Vega's passing. He was the model of personal and scholarly generosity, and I'm grateful that his spirit will live on in those he mentored, and that his voice will live on in the resources he produced and shared, but I'm so sad that he is gone.
