Another cool thing I was able to do for Fold & Fly! was commission an illustrator. Their work is on some of the components, but the real show-stopper was their work on the cover - which is vibrant, colorful & just plain gorgeous! 😍

A game about coinflipping as an esport has no right to be this enjoyable. But number go up! 🪙

The novelty of tinkering with games always excites me. Many tasks can be monotonous but each game is a new path to explore. One day I might be making new card effects, updating spreadsheets for balance, or gluing putty inside dice!

Really enjoyed making a map for Chris's Propaganda. Adding new twists to an existing design can be not only a great design exercise, but it can help you understand why & how a game ticks. If you're at all curious about game design - design a fan expansion or map & try it out!

One design lesson that games like Fold & Fly! have drilled into me is that simplicity is key, doubly so when designing for wider markets. Decisions in games can be done in many many ways, and solving how players choose which folds to make on their airplane templates is no easy task.

We are currently working on a word association game and I was wondering if there are words you could include to show that you are an ally, care for minority rights and inclusion? For example would be including the word Wheelchair be a positive signal or could it just lead to stereotypical clues?

Fold & Fly! - my Indie Game Night Market release this year was inspired by a rewatch one of my favorite Ghibli movies - The Wind Rises. The way the protagonist works through his problems has always felt strangely aligned with how I work, creatively-speaking. Sans the whole war part. 😅

Had a designer meetup recently. Just love when the ideas are flowing and we get to try prototypes - absolutely love trying first drafts to see if they'll hold water or fall flat. Being willing to share those & revel in where it lands is the best, especially with other designers you trust & respect.

Found a core issue in a design I've been hammering hard on, and I'm impressed at how it's been able to hide from not only my eyes, but also my playtesting group's Essentially it pushed a losing player further back, and it would hide as a cascading choice problem when it was really a systemic issue.

I'm not sure if this is a hot take, but financial gambling paired with gaming has always felt like the worst version of those games imaginable.

This comment is revealing. Not of the commenter themself - but the impossible position creators are now in. The volatility of these tariffs - the constant changes and lack of clear communication or source of truth (policy by tweet is gross) means creators have no way of predicting their situation.

For my Fold & Fly! release at IGNM this year, I was initially considering ordering the bulk of the game from a website that makes notepads and doing the last 10-20% myself. But looking at how notepads are actually made, I am more & more tinkering with the idea of putting together each copy by hand.

Love that feeling when you're able to imbue new life into an older design of yours! Also makes it clear how much stronger of a designer I am now. 😊 Likely going to retheme it and keep playtesting this one. They wanted to play it twice at my game night! 🔥

For quite some time I've run a local gaming group. Invite only through friends, that has lasted maybe 9 years at this point. Pre-COVID this group had solid attendance. Rotating people but averaging 6-10 each week for gaming. We usually played larger, more social games.

Doubt is our Product, Stonewall Uprising, and Molly House would be miserable to play absent from their theme. And yet those three games provided some of the most memorable experiences I've had in gaming and work in service of their theme.
