When antifeminists are called "women's groups" and the defense of women's rights is replaced with frenzied, libidinal hatred of trans people, who will work to liberate women from patriarchal violence, abuse, and control? Nobody, of course, and that's the point of the "gender critical" movement.

I cannot emphasize enough that 99.9% of the prestige media and elite intellectual debates about freedom of speech and intellectual inquiry over the last decade have been completely and utterly counterproductive, at best. Your understanding would be better if you simply didn't read anything at all.

Just want to reiterate: the operatives and politicians who do transphobic bus-tossing never account for how much pissing off their own base costs them not just votes but volunteer time, donors and even positive private conversations with friends, neighbors and coworkers.

If I had my shot at directing the Iliad, I would exclusively concentrate on Homer's "Heart of Rock & Roll" section where he names a dude from each city or island or whatever, the sights and exports of that place, then how that man died in war It would be shot entirely in slow motion and flashbacks

Excuse the qp, but I don't see the world in terms of optics and you shouldn't either. If the police are lawless violent thugs who ignore and even threaten the people's democratically elected leaders if they attempt to bring them back under control, they should be defunded, and we should say it.

I appreciate the detailed list of the lies. I would just push back against the second line of this post. Lying by law enforcement hasn't "become" routine, but has long been a problem that has not been taken seriously enough. It's why, say, some DAs have lists of cops they won't put on the stand.

IMO I think the most serious proponents of ending US support for Israel will have to naturally come around to ending or dramatically restructuring our relationship to the Gulf states, Jordan, Egypt etcetera as well since these form the basis of the regional framework designed to benefits Israel.

the one thing you have to realize about the filibuster is it keeps both parties from basically taking hard votes on policy they profess but personally know would destroy them in the next election cycle removing it is a good thing, but there is a reason that Senators don't want to give it up

Whenever some NIMBY writes an op-ed, you should look up that person's address and figure out 1. how much they paid for their home, 2. what it's worth today and 3. how much they pay in property taxes. In this case: 1. $79,000 in 1983. 2. $1,000,000. 3. $4,800/year (0.5% of assessed value.)

Either everyone's human rights are safe or no one's are. The problem with fascism is not that we're not the ones doing it, the problem with it is that it harms people and that is immoral, unethical, the foundational sin of this blood soaked nation.

California is debating legislation right now that would ban all ICE employees from ever being hired by a public agency for life. This is good and next year's Democratic House needs to provide a full roster of ICE employees to help facilitate state efforts like this one.
