Some of us didn't hop online in the 90s or the 2000s to get rich and famous, man. Some of us hopped online in the 90s and 2000s 'cause it was FUN to chat with people all over the world... for free! Baby, we grew up when it cost a zillion dollars to call long distance! We had pen pals at school!

I was so impressed with this story about measles in the Atlantic -- the depth of reporting it would take to weave in all these details so fluidly. Turns out, it was a work of fiction. She researched the effects of measles, but lots of fiction writers do research.

I love this piece so much - paired it with the Vaughan Williams Romance on my senior recital back in college. I think of it as the Most Britten. It lacks the grandeur of his more famous orchestral works, but all the depth and passion and sadness are right there, unadorned and perfect.
