It's time to stop amplifying accounts who are Anti-Democrats. Especially those whose only lean is to constantly trash our party, when all of this preventable mess, is due to Trump and the GOP who control all three branches. Many lack political investment in harm reduction!

Knowing beep codes and LED flash patterns should be for when you're resurrecting obscure 80s micro-controllers, not an expected part of the interface for modern "smart" devices. Bring back dot matrix displays.

I have thoughts, and they aren’t going to fit neatly into Bluesky posts. Briefly: 1. The deal sucks. 2. Probably not as much as you think it does. 3. It’s good to be mad. 4. FFS, be madder at the GOP. 5. Strategy is hard. 5b. Timing matters. 6. The fight isn’t over. 7. Go pet a cat. (Or a dog.)

Democracy Dies in Dorkness

Discipline can happen in a lot of ways but one of them is "stay on message." I would advise using whatever tiny leverage we have from here to shift the narrative from "Democrats caved, it's their fault" to "Republicans are willing to let Americans starve indefinitely, let alone extend subsidies."

If Democrats get anything above the clean CR, then by definition they didn't cave. Because that means they ended up better than they started. Caving would be them just signing the House CR with no additional funding. That's not what's happening.

There were eight votes here. King isnt a Democrat, Fetterman is Fetterman. Add four “small tight states with razor thin margins” Senators who don’t need a leadership push on this, and you’re left with Kaine and Durbin. IMO the only coordination here was Durbin covering for Warner.

I think every Dem that’s shown even a hint of squishiness needs to be primaried with the full force of whatever the left can muster. But I also think we don’t need to win more than a few of those. Most of these people other than the calcified ancients can be terrified into doing their jobs

I need those ACA subsidies. My neighbors need food. I’m not going to fault the only party that wants us to have both for only being able to secure the food. Be mad at Republicans. Be mad at your maga family. Use the rest of your energy to give Democrats a majority.

The one thing I'll say about current events tonight is that its ok to be upset about how the shutdown appears to have gone down at time of typing - you *should* be upset. You should be angry and sad and many other things. My usual advice/threat comes attached though: don't fucking doom.

I see a lot of folks saying this will hurt Dems in the midterms and frankly I’m not sure that’s true - if anything, it shows the depth to which people are angry and engaged and wanting to fight these assholes but it does substantially increase the chance they will be voting for different Democrats

Morally its a bad deal that is gonna hang millions of ppl out to dry on their healthcare. Strategically its a deal that pisses of a lot of the D base. But politically? Politically Rs fought tooth & nail to do a really bad thing while voters hold them accountable bc they have a trifecta government.

Mamdani's line that billionaires spent more to oppose his candidacy than he proposed to tax them really says it all. Like a company that shuts down a profitable location as soon as it unionizes. The principle of maintaining control is more important.

very long good thread about why trump is so central to the current GOP--he's the only thing holding together what is in fact a very fractious coalition, and even if he lives out this presidency he's clearly not gonna be a force for much longer

Tesla’s profit fell 37% in the third quarter. It's been in the process of laying off 14,000 workers. It had more cars impacted by recalls than any other brand in 2024. Yet Elon Musk just got a pay package worth $1 trillion. American capitalism is off the rails.

There had better be trials. And not just for the low-level thugs carrying out these orders, but for everyone up the chain of command. If we get past this, the solution isn’t to pretend it never happened and invite Stephen Miller to Harvard’s Institute of Politics. It’s trials w real punishments.

one of my spicy takes, for example, is that limits on strikes are unconstitutional under the 13th Amendment, because if we have a right to be free from forced labor, we must necessarily have a right to stop working and negotiate the conditions of our labor
