Lady about town on a bike.
pinned post!
I have a bunch of followers here who I don’t think followed me on other platforms, so I realized I need to share this absolute masterpiece that I commissioned. You’re welcome, everyone.

I have been in intermittent pain for 6 months and fairly constant pain for a solid 6 weeks. I finally see a physical therapist on Tuesday. Trying to envision my life without a permanent neck and shoulder spasm. I just might be able to take over the world.

Me: Let’s take the child out to eat. Surely she’ll like the macaroni and cheese at Comet Cafe. My child: “It’s not as good as mom’s. Is there anything else to eat?” In case you’re wondering why we never go out.

Years and years ago, I started a Roth IRA. I never really contributed much and kind of forgot about it. In an effort to be a real adult, today I figured out where it is! It has $7300 in it! Imagine what it might have if I'd remembered it existed and contributed to it over the past 15 years.

It will never stop annoying me how much more quickly I can get in for appointments if I’m willing to go to Froedtert locations in Menomonee Falls or West Bend. Would I like to go to West Bend for my hip injection? Ma’am, I refuse to learn where West Bend is.

I love how people will say to create a checklist for kids to follow for their morning routine, as though the children will read said list. Me: “Ok time to finish your other things.” 8yo: “I have nothing left to do.” Me: “Have you done piano and violin?” 8yo: “I have two more things to do.”

Someone in the neighborhood group is asking for kindergarten recommendations for the fall. MPS kindergarten enrollment lottery closes on Monday. Meanwhile, I was touring schools when my kid was 2. It’s possible I am a little TOO into planning…

Hey! You! Do you have retirement accounts? Did you ever set up your beneficiaries? You should double check and make sure you have designated the right beneficiaries. (This message brought to you by my realization that I hadn't designated beneficiaries. All fixed now.)

The worst part of doing a gut renovation of my upstairs bathroom (besides having to go downstairs to pee in the middle of the night) is that I’m spending tens of thousands of dollars to realize all the other things I hate in my house.

I just think that if this picture of you has ever been taken, let alone published, you don’t get to lecture anyone else on being “culturally normal.”

One of the many reasons that WFH actually increases my productivity is that when my kid is home sick from school with relatively mild viral symptoms, I can work while she watches TV and makes some Play-Doh creations. If I had to be in the office, I’d have to take the whole day off.

Researching restaurants in NYC. One place is described as a "cozy craft beer bar and store," but it also serves food. So naturally, I figured we could go. But then I wondered - am I being too Wisconsin? Can my kid come? Thank god the homepage has a picture of a kid with a sippy cup on it. Whew.

Since the last time I went to NYC, Top of the Rock added the Skylift and the Beam. They both look cool but add a lot to the ticket price. Has anyone done either of these? Are they worth it? (OMG observation deck prices are insane.)

We don’t have to send every negligent and violent driver to prison, but we sure af need to get them off the road.

I love that ski mountaineering is a bunch of Norwegians and then everyone else. This sport seems like it was designed specifically for Scandinavians.

Spent the entire afternoon tweaking our plans for our upcoming trip to New York City and the thought of using AI to plan a vacation just makes me sad. The planning gets me hyped! Also, the more I stare at the map ahead of time, the better the trip is.

1) Hell yes. Sleep is a massively underrated part of health. 2) “I’ll set an alarm for 10 or 11 a.m., and if I sleep to it, great. A bomb could go off and I’ll probably sleep through it.” I AM SO JEALOUS. I would do unspeakable things to sleep for 10 hours.

“Why don’t kids play outside?” IDK, guys, maybe it’s that in one block on my walk home from the gym, I saw a driver on her phone, another smoking a joint, and a third running a stop sign.

The worst part of parenting (besides all the illnesses) is how much harder it is to do fun things. Going to a concert means $90 for babysitting and then being exhausted the next day because you still have to get up early. 😭😭😭 (I love being a mom, don’t come for me.)

Does anybody know the state of the Hank Aaron State Trail? I was planning to ride the western portion of it with my kid and am now realizing this may be an issue. And by planning, I mean we NEED to get 40 blocks west of where we are by bike this afternoon.

Does anybody know of a bike shop in Minneapolis that rents kids’ bikes? We’re planning to stay in the university area and would like to take Amtrak there + get around by transit and bike. But if we can’t find rentals, we might drive so we can bring our own bikes. (Alas, no bikes on the Borealis.)
