The thing about people like Newsom and Buttigieg is not just that they pivoted to stupid GOP talking points and went anti-woke. By doing so, they showed how completely unprepared they are to take on the challenge of rebuilding after fascism because they acquiesce to fascism. Disqualifying.

investigated the Chicago apartment raid where kids were zip-tied and citizens detained for hours. They find: - NONE of the arrested were criminally charged - NO evidence the building was "filled with TdA terrorists." - ZERO legitimate reason for DHS to rappel from a Blackhawk.

I was under the impression that Trump incited an insurrection by spending months lying to his followers that the election was stolen and then asking them to show up at the Capitol on January 6th. But now I'm learning that I only thought that bc of an edit in a 2024 BBC documentary. Oops!

I spoke to my Republican colleagues and am very pleased to report that I’ve secured a promise to consider thinking about a non-binding vote. What’s that you ask? A vote for what? Oh they assured me we can work that out as soon as I give up all my leverage.

Good write up. Honestly as someone who reviewed housing elements at HCD, I found that time and again local planners and consultants used sneaky tactics to reduce the feasibility of multifamily housing. I find the insistence on local bottom-up reform to solve the housing crisis hopelessly naive.

This is a good article, worth reading. Gigantic SUVs are a public health threat. Why don’t we treat them like one? The anti-smoking playbook is worth studying and learning from, and is completely applicable to oversized cars. Via

Publicly funded elections and campaign donation limits level the playing field and blunt the influence of big money in politics. NYC’s mayoral race is a prime example of this in action. This kind of election reform is a critical part of making democracy work for everyone, not just the rich.

"Why don't people support welfare programs?" Racism. More specifically, anti-Blackness. White folks asked about who welfare serves overestimate the number of Black people on welfare. Not only that, but just the mere THOUGHT of who welfare supports led less white people to support it.

This is the essence of the emerging fascist state. Access to resources and programs designed to make our lives better is being stolen from us so that the oppressors can use, hoard, and distribute them to friends and hold them ransom in order to force compliance.
