if I understand American politics correctly, progressivism is something that requires 60 senate votes to work, while national conservatism doesn’t require any votes at all

Over 100 refugees who were scheduled to be resettled in Indiana have seen their flights canceled in the last two days. Refugees make our state stronger, and the bipartisan support for U.S. refugee resettlement has been a pillar of our nation for over a century.

My gift today: not turning on the news. The world could be spinning off its axis, and I wouldn’t know. And you know what? It’s been bliss. Tomorrow I’ll dip a toe back into the current, but for now, I’m savoring the peace of knowing absolutely nothing. Highly recommend.

The Wounded Knee Massacre occurred 134 years ago (December 29, 1890), on the Pine Ridge Reservation in southwestern South Dakota. Here are five, relatively recent works of excellent scholarship on that tragic event.

Many pediatric oncology programs rely on philanthropy and have just a small fraction of the resources that St Jude has. If you’d like to support children with cancer, especially those in your area, consider donating to your local children’s hospital.

I learned from our chaplain this week that their service staffed the hospital 24/7, and when on call, they were required to show up to every Code Blue within 30 minutes to support families, no matter what time it was. I am so impressed.

I’d recommend everyone regardless of medical risk bring a mask on your airplane journey, a disinfectant wipe to clean the seat you’re in and hand sanitizer. It’s going to be on you alone to protect your health. Warning signs are everywhere.

not saying anything groundbreaking here, but I really think "politics as a form of content to be served up and consumed like all other forms of content" has been an enormous, underrated disaster in terms of giving folks the illusion of being informed while essentially being gamed like a drug addict

i am glad that weed is more or less becoming legal nationwide little by little but my two wet blanket opinions are: -edibles sold in packages that mimic popular kids snacks and junk food should be... idk... less common -vapes should only be sold at 21+ stores/dispensaries

We probably don’t need to have this conversation but, “the biggest reason humans have such a large impact on the environment is that we want to provide a high standard of living for a very large population of people” is very different from “I want human population to crash.”
