If you take all the parking spaces in DC and add up their area, they would cover over 8 square miles, or the equivalent of 3 Rock Creek Parks.

DC adds an average of 5,300 new housing units per year. Kenyan McDuffie's big plan is 12,000 new units by 2030. That's slower than the status quo! If that doesn't tell you what you need to know about McDuffie, IDK what will.

DC was the only postwar US city where residents successfully fought back against new freeways & chose to reallocate transportation funds instead to a brand-new metro network. Rather than just a line or two through the city centerâlike Atlanta, Miami, BaltimoreâDC got a real network. It paid off.

I don't think people fully appreciate how apocalyptic things are for US science. I haven't had any new funding since 2024, but I'm still ok since typical grants are for three years. This means next year I will be completely out of funding and will have to fire everyone in the lab. It's not great.
