Among the things my teen kid does that makes me proud is his sense of freedom to travel around DC. He gets so much confidence and joy from those outings, similar to how I'd spend hours lost in pastures and the creeks where I grew up. Curfews are a blunt tool. Dent the wood but don't hit the nail.

I think the goal of set aside seats is to help ensure a single party doesn't dominate DC politics. Technically, that is what's (not) happening. But when politicians freely register and unregister as a Democrat when it's politically expedient, it calls into question if the set-aside rule works.

Parks Police is notorious among the unhoused community in DC for being particularly brutal. We did a camp defense years ago on NPS property & a resident who’d been unhoused for decades said we had to be ready for them to “come in batons swinging… they’ll crack skulls.”

I was on the ground earlier today at the Petworth Metro Station after I received troubling reports from neighbors about IRS Criminal Investigation agents working with Transit Police to interrogate riders on WMATA buses.

You can cook food for your neighbors. Set a free pantry box outside of your place. Pool money with your coworkers if someone at work has young kids or an elderly relative that likely has SNAP. You don’t have to pry into people’s business, you can just do things & make it known help is available.

NEW: We just filed a lawsuit alongside 25 states to restore SNAP food assistance during the federal shutdown. 141,000 DC residents rely on SNAP to afford their meals — including 47,000 children and 24,000 seniors. We will do everything in our power to prevent DC families from going hungry.

MPD is increasingly in lockstep with ICE and other federal agents. And there’s almost no one in charge telling them that isn’t OK.

We had a great Spooktacular! Takoma Community Cleanup. 12 volunteers activated, 12 bags of litter collected, lots of DDOT detritus cleared, and Sidewalk Library stocked with books and staples + enjoyed beautiful blooms and butterflies, S’mores kits, and good company.
