semi-regular reminder that ICE was only created in 2003 when you are asked to imagine a world without ICE, you're basically being asked to remember where you were when Lilo & Stitch came out

Always remember that listening to music can be the entire activity. Put on headphones. Blast it through speakers. Close your eyes and just listen. Listening to music is not a background activity. It can be the entire journey, and it's worth the time.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts. Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

We joke about the Torment Nexus and all that, but... The truth is science fiction warned us endlessly not to let fear control us. "Fear is the mind killer" "Fear is a path to the Dark Side" etc. Silicon Valley claimed to love SF, then built a machine to amplify fear as a means to control people.

The Walton family (who own Walmart) are worth over $400 billion, yet many of their employees are on SNAP. Bezos is worth over $400 billion, many Amazon employees require SNAP. The people who need help are not the problem. It’s corporate greed. It’s an unwillingness to pay a living wage.

2025 feels like that late-stage game of monopoly where you just go round and round paying rent and utilities forever and nobody knows what the rules are anymore and everyone’s just waiting for it all to end except the one player who cheated and has all the money

I just saw that today's date (9/16/25 in America, 16.9.25 in the civilized world) is a series of squares: 3x3/4x4/5x5 Everything is terrible, but that's something cool about today that we can all enjoy for a moment. Math is a language of the Universe. I love when I hear it like this.

I’ve said this before and I’ll probably say it again, but every hardcore IRL activist I know makes a very deliberate effort to interject joy into their lives and appreciate little things. I’ve only ever seen this dedication to misery in extremely online meme “activists”.

John Oliver doesn’t get enough credit for having a show with a strong viewpoint who will oftentimes devote 20-25 minutes to a topic, sometimes one that you can’t hear about on American television anywhere else, and manage to be pretty consistently funny while doing it. It’s a hell of a balancing act

More people need to know about the Pazyryk Swan, 2400 years old, from the Siberian horse-riding pastoral people. It is felted, c30cm. Because of the permafrost burials so much amazing felt, appliqué, embroidery and textile art has survived. But I just love that a stuffie has survived ❤️

Your Daily Affirmation: Today is art appreciation day. I'm noticing the brushstrokes in a hairdo, the light on the water, the color on a green bean, the texture of a drapery. The art is in the noticing, and today, I'm paying attention. Oh my, that orange fellow is an idiot.

For those following the story of unidentified men violently dragging a protester from a local Idaho GOP meeting, it turns out they were from a private security firm called LEAR Asset Management. But neither the sheriff (who watched it all go down) or the GOP will take responsibility for hiring them.
