The Oxfam Bookshop on St Giles’, Britain’s first, has earned a reprieve. Oxford City Council has refused permission for landlords Regent’s Park College to turn it into a graduate common room, pointing out that the Local Plan prioritises retail, entertainment, and office uses in the city centre.

The plan formalises existing OCC practice which has seen red, green, buff and black cycle lanes in recent years. A Reform spokesperson attacked the policy, saying it was just a sneaky way of making a statement about diversity, and suggested cycle lanes be marked with St George crosses instead.
