I’m devastated by this. I sound like a broken record, but having lived with what this bill imagines for almost 2 years, this will ONLY divide us more. Pretty damn shameful, all the council members who voted on this performative bill without thinking through any of the repercussions.

The City Council just voted to effectively ban protests near schools and houses of worship. As Trump and ICE escalate their attacks on New Yorkers, we need to resist more, not less. I oppose the buffer zone bills, and will defend our right to protest against fascism.

They removed all of the arts at a lot of schools because apparently cursive is more important than culture, for one. My HS was going to get rid of them to make sure they could afford football, the sport with the most brain damage. :DDDDD

As someone who is left-handed, being forced to write cursive was an actual curse. Teachers have no idea what to do with left-handed people. This led to me suffering from life-long dysgraphia. Back to "basics" would mean not learning cursive at all.

But to be clear, nobody actually said white people are guilty of the sins of their fathers. We said white people largely still benefit from the sins of their fathers & they should honor their heritage by using that benefit in the service or a more equitable world. That was too big an ask.

I will never stop pointing out that the premise of these laws is incorrect, that we are in a moral panic and people are looking for an easy scapegoat, and that people are reducing a complex and difficult problem with multiple factors to an easy, reductive, and wrong answer.

Every time I make the (correct) statement that social media use is not universally bad for teenagers, or state that the best consensus is that it's beneficial-to-neutral for many and any negative effects are a small subset of teenagers, people demand citations (and then refuse to believe them, sigh)
