I defended my PhD 10 years ago today. That was the least remarkable thing that happened that day. Sharing something I wrote about it last year. Since then "the horrors persist but so do we." And with dignity.

Deep in the throes of the pandemic-driven shutdown, many people (including me) used this meme of a dumpster fire to say that would be emblematic of what we all felt and experienced about that time. Seems almost cute that we thought things could not possible get worse.
