There is grace in refraining from finding joy in an enemy’s miseries, and power in not needing to display one’s power. I try to live by that; lord knows some people make it difficult, and I don’t always succeed, but I do try.

Head, neck, and back hurt. Hard to concentrate. Going to take a nap now. It’s been a long day. Got some stuff done but not as much writing as I would have liked.

Have pinched nerve in my back that’s been hurting like hell & it’s been slowing me way down the last few days. Trying to get caught up & back on track; chances are, if you haven’t heard from me, I’m not ignoring you. You know, unless you’re a total tool. Then, maybe, I’ve been ignoring you. 🤣

Just recommended one of my favorite childhood books to my niece, who is now the same age I was when I first read it. It’s had other covers, some of them very cool, but this is the cover I remember.

Pausing my day to say that Instagram used to show me nothing but kitten pics and videos, but now, for no reason I can ascertain, it wants to show me every reel ever of large-breasted women in bikini tops. I am perplexed.

A kingdom has lost a king, and the people are mourning. Metal has lost a legend and a kind soul. Music is a gift from the universe,m that transcends time and space. It is one of the most powerful forces I can think of. My heart is heavy.

It’s so f-ing hot and humid outside that I hate. It’s too hot to even direct the hate anywhere. I just hate.

If you're one of those writers having trouble writing because of the heavy fog of awful hanging over America/Gaza/Middle East/the world, I see you. Self-care is not weakness. So craft, paint, take pictures, sing songs, go for a swim, take a bath, take a walk, take a breath, . Then write.

Do what you love for a living, and you will never have a day off for the rest of your life.

I’m cool enough to figure out how to share Instagram stories with friends and loved ones, but not cool enough to figure out where they go when I share them to my page. 🤣

What if Erich Zann was once part of the court of Azathoth, one of the musicians tasked w/ playing music to keep the old beast asleep & dreaming so that the universe/all of reality could continue? What if he got tired of playing & escaped to earth, only to find he couldn’t really escape?

I think folks forget sometimes that while Keene may take a pulp or extreme horror or splatterpunk approach to certain individual books, the heart of his mythos is cosmic horror, and he addresses the nihilism and doomed hopefulness of his very human characters with a deft and often subtle hand.

I know ppl think of @briankeene.bsky.social as a splatterpunk writer, but I’ve just read “Notes Toward a History of LeHorn’s Hollow,” which appears in THE MAP OF LOST PLACES (Apex Books). It’s very reminiscent of Arthur Machen in that it blends folk & cosmic horror eerily, suggesting the cosmic 1/2
