Bookish Confession: I went through a big alternate history phase where I read a lot of Turtledove, Phillip K. Dick and SM Stirling and sometimes I have to remind myself what was actual history and what was fiction which can get really embarrassing at Quizzo.

My stepdaughter is going on her first college tour today, the first step in the holy hell she’s almost a senior in high school what the hell is going on phase.

The Bucks County Sheriffs Warant Officers showed up at my house looking for someone who doesn’t live here. According to them someone OD’d at my address in January but I’ve lived here for over 5 years and that’s never happened. They said, “Well, maybe they got the wrong address. That happens.”

I’m reading a book while waiting for my daughter at the dentist and it’s about a guy who enjoys fishing talking about how he wants a serious relationship and I’m pretty sure he’s going to hook up with a fish person or something because that’s how this book has been going.

Dumb things I do that I feel like I’m the only one who does it: When I driving on a road, even one I drive often, and there a large curve coming I will, without thinking, hit my turn signal.

Last night we watched Whistle on Shudder/AMC+. Man, this movie had more flaws than I can count on my eleven fingers. Tons of plot holes, poorly developed characters and a shattershot mythology. Yet, it was visually compelling and actually a lot of fun. A few beers helped.

I’m listening to Children of the Dark by @jonathanjanz.bsky.social. I’ve read plenty of books with dumb, incompetent cops but man these cops are dumber and incompetenter than most.

Stumbled on to another “audiobooks isn’t reading” thread. Simply put, if you say that audiobooks are not reading, even if you like audiobooks, then you are saying that reading words visually is better than listening to an audiobook.

Last night, my wife and I went to one of our favorite breweries to watch PSYCHO on 16mm. These 16mm showings are some of our favorite events at Neshaminy Creek.

I was training a new staff when one of the guys in the building attacked me then eloped. By the time I got out of the building to follow the new staff was running down the street. I haven’t seen him since. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m halfway through my first one of his books and I’m going to need to buy more , both print and audio.

I’ve only really gotten back into reading print on paper books after my eye surgery so sometimes it’s weird to look down and realized I’m on page 184 of 271 and have to do the math myself.

Tomorrow should be a stressful day. We will be going to Benjamin’s oncologist to discuss a new treatment plan and whether we need to transition to a new oncologist. Positive vibes are welcome.

After some consideration and perusal of the titles in my library that I haven’t listed to I chose Children of the Dark by @jonathanjanz.bsky.social as my next audiobook. Helps that I really like Matt Godfrey as a narrator.

Stumbled into another “audiobooks count as reading” debate and while I totally agree arguing that they don’t is ableist, even if you listen to audiobooks because you like them, or it’s easier for you than print or you want to multitask but are physically able to read print, they count as reading.

Finished Twelve Months by Jim Butcher and now I’m not exactly sure what I want to listen to next. I have a bunch of stuff in my library I haven’t listened too, so probably should pick one of those.

For years on the other site I was stereotyped as the zombie guy and yeah, I love me some ghouls but, back in my high school days I used to hide in the library during study hall reading Agatha Christie and was know to occasionally “borrow” my older sister’s VC Andrews and Danielle Steele novels.

I was supposed to take part in a very awkward meeting today but then it was decided that the VP and AVP of Residential would handle it by themselves and well, sometimes it’s good to be a peon.

I may just have ordered hot dog pitas directly from the manufacturer. In my defense, they never have them at my local stores.

We are going to PhillyFanExpo at the end of the month mostly because David Tennant is going to be there. Seems I know the all the celebrities but for the wrong reasons. Hey, it’s the narrator of The Dresden Files! And the professor from Sliders! And Mr. Smith from Jeremiah! And Mr. T!

So for this year I’ve read 26 books this year. A bunch of them were 100-200 page novellas but I had a couple of 40+ hour audiobooks as well.

Finished reading APOCALYPTIC ORGAN GRINDER by William Todd Rose, a book that’s been lingering on my Kindle Library for a while. Actually a much better book than the title indicates. Good set up with a well executed ending.

I’m glad this ended up being a hoax but it was a scary situation. Both my girls where minutes away from entering their school and some of their friends were barricaded in a closet in the school. Not the first time this year the school recieved violent threats.

I absolutely love when we recieve a nice email from a family member who appreciates the care we give to the men we serve. Then there’s today when a mother says we should all be fired and the home closed down by the state.

I just discovered, that’s to @alanbaxter.bsky.social that in Australia a fanny pack is a bum bag and my life has now improved with this bit of knowledge. Of course, now I wonder what the call a colostomy bag.

I made the mistake of posting in a Stephen King Fan group on FB and now I get like three posts a day saying things like “Hey, have you guys ever read this one? [Picture of The Stand] and it can be a struggle not to be a gatekeeping asshole. I resist… I swear.

My girls school was locked down again due to a threat of violence. Luckily I was just about to drop them off when security told me to take them home. No active threat but this has occurred a few time this year. Glad they take it seriously but it’s scary.

Yesterday, my daughter said “When I have adult money I want to get a Coach bag” and my first thought was when I get adult money I want to be able to afford gas without having to use my grocery points.

I love going to event with indy vendors but often find the social interaction awkward. Like, what you’re doing is amazing, these are so cool, no I am not going to buy anything but keep doing what you’re doing friend!

My literal plans for the day. 1. Make brunch for wife and kids. 2. Shower. 3. Walk dogs. 4. Read. 5. Make dinner. 6. Read. 7. Watch movie with wife. This is my first Sunday off without any plans in a while.

Yesterday we went to Asbury Park for the Jersey Devil Fable Festival. We love Asbury and also had a nice dinner, walked the boardwalk and did some record shopping. Here’s me and Ben with The Leads Monster.
