Society is being destroyed from the inside and we have just be covered in snow and ice so we are sitting at home eating chili and watching big budget disaster movies.

I am amazed at the number of so called ALPHA males who believe the right course of action is to stand there while a group of masked thugs assault a woman.

There were once some merchants and money changers just doing their job in the temple and some agitator came in and started overturning their tables. If he just would have stayed home and let the authorities do what they wanted he probably wouldn’t have been crucified.

True Story: Congress could have funded immigration without allowing that huge bundle of money to ICE *OR* they could have funded immigration but directed how that money would be spent. Instead... more tear gas. More people shot in the face. Blood on all their hands.

Oh, and Libby. I need you to give me more than 21 days to finish a Stephen King audiobook. I have three days to finish The Tommyknockers and about 10 hours. It’s my weekend off which means less commuting and more driving the girls around to their various dance stuff.

Some books talk. Some times it takes me a day to finish a book. Sometimes a month. Sometimes six months. And it rarely has has to do with the content and quality of a book. Recently an author jokingly made a comment that his books must suck because I’ve been reading it for two months. It doesn’t.

A local real estate company has a digital billboard at a major intersection near me. The billboard has a “Joke Of the Day.” Today I hit the green light driving past and now I will never know what happed when the frog got a parking ticket.

Some of my favorite shows of all time have been at World Live Cafe but with all their labor issues, use of AI and problems with Penn, I feel their time is over. So yesterday this show came up in my memories. 2019 CVB with Jonathan Segal, David Lowery and Victor Krummenacher.

I read The Tommyknockers in high school and it probably was my least favorite Stephen King novel. I have recently reread a lot of my favorite Stephen King novels (in audio) so I thought, maybe it’s time to revist some of the ones I didn’t like. I’m about 5 hours in and so far, not a fan.

I think one of the misconceptions about audiobooks that people who don’t read them make is that it’s passive, so you should be able to just start an audiobook and have no problem reading it. Active listening is a skill that needs to be developed.

Breaking News: I suck at BINGO.

I’m at my first BINGO today and people have come in with catered meals and I’m sitting here with just two six packs like an amateur.

I literally just saw an article on how to watch the 28 Days Later movies in order. And this was written before The Bone Temple came out.

People are being abducted and murdered by Federal Agents and conservatives are worried about whole milk and doctor’s who was asked to define what a woman is.

Just finished the novella, When You Leave I Disappear by @davidniallwilson.com. First print book of 2026. Absolutely loved it. Crazy mind trippy reality buster that came together brilliantly. Tried to explain to my wife what it was all about and words just failed me.

This sucks harder than that time Mr. Roger’s fish died.

Finally watched The Long Walk. My wife (who has read the novella) didn’t want to watch it so I had to wait to a day I had a few hours free. Honestly, it was even more brutal than I remembered it. Loved it, but in that way that you love the most dark, depressing things.

One of the small things I do at work is I have a small holder on my desk full of pens for staff to take if they don’t have one. I can’t tell you how many people have come to me and told me I shouldn’t leave them on my desk because staff will come in and take them.

Last night, after I got home from work, we had Chinese food, watched Stranger Things then played Poetry for Neanderthals until midnight. Outside of being sick it was the perfect New Year’s Eve.

I’ve been sick the past few days. Seems to be getting progressively worse. Haven’t been sick like this in a few years. I know RSV was going through my work so it’s quite likely to be that, or some version of the flu.

I’m at this weird place where I want to go back a reread (listen to) all the Stephen King books I didn’t love. There is a million new books out there that I should be reading but my brain is like “Hey, remember Tommyknockers. You hated that one right? Or did you? Mwahaha.”

My girls crying during the Stranger Things Finale: “You just don’t understand having something you grew up with ending!” Me: “Well…” Them: “IT’S NOT THE SAME!”

I have read Stephen King’s It multiple times but the last time was probably 25 years ago. Decided to listen to the audiobook for the first time. Please don’t come at me with that “Stephen King is a great storyteller but not a great writer” bullshit. I forgot how good the writing in this book was.

My step daughter: I don’t think 67 is ever going away! Me: That would be gnarly! Her: What? Me: Rad? Her: What? Me: Cringe? Her: That’s now how you…. Me: Psyche!

Today will be my third and final time seeing The Nutcracker this season, and the second one with my daughter in it.

I have to say there is a perfect moment every other Saturday when I am off of work, and I just dropped off the girls for their Ballet Intensive and we have about 3 hours before we need to take them to their next dance class and we are just sitting on the couch with these two.

People, I’m willing to put up with almost anything to watch your cute puppy video but I have to draw the line at Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You.

So, since my brain is struggling to wrap itself around new fiction I decided to reread Different Seasons (on audio). I totally forgot what an unpleasant experience Apt Pupil is.

Just read @briankeene.bsky.social’s newsletter from last week because I am so behind on life. If anyone needs proof that I am a stepfather to teenager girls I just need to show them that my top two artist of the year on Apple Music were Billie Eilish and the cast of Hamilton.

I feel like I want to do a blog post on Christmas Horror novels but I don’t really blog anymore nor have I read enough Christmas Horror Novels. I will take recommendations though if anyone has a Christmas Horror novel they enjoyed.

I’ve been in a bit of a book slump. DNF’d my last two audiobooks. Finally finished a book, Polybius by Collin Armstrong. Honestly, my brain wasn’t too into it but I pushed through and ended up really enjoying it.

I want to listen to @brianmcwriter.bsky.social Candy Cain Kills, but out of Audible credits at the moment. Think my next one comes soon but audible lists it as second in the series. I assume it can be read as a standalone. Also, looks like the next book isn’t on audible yet. Wish it was on librio.

This time of year I always hit a book slump, a combination of going on a horror binge in October and all the holiday stuff. I think this is a big reason I often start the year rereading books or a series I love. This year my plan is to reread @richardkadrey.bsky.social’s Sandman Slim series.

Despite fighting the Philly Holiday traffic and pedestrians and our usual Parking Garage being full we had a fun time watching Philly Ballet’s The Nutcracker yesterday at The Academy of Music.

The Hunger Games ripped off Battle Royale and I don’t like the guy who played Shaggy in Scooby Doo are not super edgy hot takes.

I think we are at the “Quentin Tarantino just needs to shut the fuck up” part of the program.

At the Philadelphia Ballet performance of the Nutcracker and I’ve only fallen asleep like maybe twice the first act. In my defense I worked all day, didn’t sleep well last night and, outside of the Mice King, the first act is a bit slow. Second act is better.

I just dnf’d my last two audiobooks, not because they were bad but my brain just couldn’t process them right now. Like I wanted chips but tried to eat a steak.

I love how Conservatives treat Stephen Miller saying something like it’s proof.

I should be finishing up my current audiobook tomorrow and I have no idea what to read next. Not even sure what kind of book I want to read next.

My mom worked as a direct care provider my whole life. I have worked in various roles for a residential campus for people with IDD and complex medical conditions. Some people try to say that the “r” word isn’t hurtful. Just more PC policing. This is so very untrue.

Our Thanksgiving tradition is we all pick two movies and put them in a hat and we pick them and watch whatever comes up. First movie this year is Little Shop of Horrors.

I was hoping to finish THE SHATTERING PEACE by @scalzi today but I ran out of time. The audiobook is excellent and the story is a lot of fun but I probably will need to wait a few days to finish it with all the thanking and giving coming up.

I just read a list of the top 5 Science Fiction books of 2025 and 1 was a super hero book and the other 4 were fantasy. I love Scifi and Fantasy but they are two very different things. I hate how often they are just lumped together.

Listening to the new Grisham which was dubbed as a whodunnit murder mystery. I’m about 4 hours in and it’s a slog. Mostly the unlikeable main character doing unlikeable things. No murder yet, no mystery. The real whodunnit is if I’m going finish.

Fact: My mother takes much better care of her dog than she ever did of us. Also Fact: I don’t blame her.

It’s Sunday and I made french toast and the wife put Forever Knight on the telly. I have puppies and a apple cider mimosa. No complaints.
