Vancouver is the only other city I’ve lived in (albeit briefly), so revisiting it is always a fun mix of the familiar and new. One thing I’m noticing this time is the surprising amount of yoga pants. Vancouver has always been very yoga pants forward but this feels like a critical mass.

I should have predicted this when I booked a hotel room that's a 5 minute walk from one of my favourite record stores in the world.

Before I left for Vancouver I decided this would be a financially responsible excursion and I would keep my unnecessary expenses at a minimum. But then I had to wait 4 hours before I could check into my hotel and spent $400 on records and comics books.

I just poked my head into Beat Street (my fave record store in Vancouver) and found a copy of Bobbie Gentry’s “Fancy”, which I’ve always looked for everywhere I’ve gone. Weirdly instead of being in the folk/country sections it should be in, it was in the soul/disco section.

My flight got to Vancouver 20 minutes early, so it felt like we were in the air for half an hour. Happy I didn’t pay for the upgrade!

So...the people going after anyone not speaking about CK in the approved manner are the same people who start screeching about their own rights being trampled if someone suggests maybe they should stop being assholes.

The remarks weren’t “about Charlie Kirk,” they were about how this administration is using Kirk’s death as an excuse to shut down critics … and they responded by proving him completely correct.

Something you might have noticed in all the Redford tributes--it's all about his work and advocacy. For all his fame, he was an intensely private man and it was rare to hear even the vaguest references to his personal life outside of work.

He is free to argue that because he is not a stakeholder in ANY of it. If the GOP has its way, what will be taken from Ezra Klein personally is nothing more serious than a good night's sleep. I sincerely await the essay in which he acknowledges that, and the limitation of vision it causes him. x
