“Great news, we’ve seized millions of barrels of oil.” “Don’t get distracted, focus on Epstein.” “We also seized a Russian boat full of oil, we will destabilize the globe to monopolize key resources.” “He’s trying to take attention away from Epstein.” “Time to invade Greenland.” “Epstein!”

Me, exiting time machine: Jim! It’s me, your older self! Young me: whoa! Me: We need to save the future! Young me: we do? Me: First, there’s a guy in South Africa named El… wait, is that Goldeneye? Young me: yeah, I’m stuck in the Facility. Me (sitting down): okay what keycards do you have

, as one of your constituents, it was very discouraging to see your KTLA interview where you never said “impeach,” and where you admitted your efforts to rein in such acts by a president were subverted because he simply *kept the operation financially negligible.*

Amazing to live in a country where every day you can watch Republicans gin up issue salience out of nothing but attitude and 4chan posts and a sizeable chunk of people think Democrats' only power is to vote yes or no on bills placed in front of them

New “Doomsday” footage reminds me of something I struggle with re: these movies, which is that the bigger they get, the more they feel like fantasy wars akin to something like “Return of the King.” It’s just generally less of the stuff I like about the idea of superheroism.

my 75yo mother told me last night that she’s planning to delete Instagram and Facebook because she’s sick of not being able to tell what’s AI and what’s not, and I genuinely don’t think tech companies have reckoned with this kind of move as an actual possibility

There wasn’t an excellent “Mortal Kombat” game until “Deadly Alliance.” Before then, the fight styles of characters were too similar, with only special moves to really differentiate them. The games had the aesthetics and the pleasurably incomprehensible lore, but not the bedrock gameplay.

FAVORITE FIRST-TIME WATCHES OF 2025 Addams Family Values - "Really, Debbie? ...pastels?" All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) - That fucking ending. Those soldiers looking back at me. Anora - Earned its wins. The Birdcage - I keep thinking about Nathan Lane on that bench.

THE GUNSLINGER: THE SLOW MUTANTS (1981) Acrylic on Watercolor Board - 20” x 15” I took up the challenge of illustrating this scene illuminated solely by the flash of a gunshot. In so many ways, it was the shot that set the stage for Roland’s epic journey to the Dark Tower. 1/4

Some years back, a company I was at got a bulk order of “Hill Street Blues” to caption, and I was floored by how good it was. Quiet and reasonably serious / plausible look at fallible, human police. Felt like an influence on “The Wire” (if not as long-form or grim).

Excited to be heading back to Park City one last time for Sundance in January. I'll be doing some coverage for The Ringer, but should also have the capacity to pick up a few reviews if there's a need for them out there. Editors, let me know!

Are there some more fantasy movies and books in the realm of NeverEnding Story, Phantom Tollbooth, or Labyrinth that I'm unaware of? Fantasy stories that aren't about elves and dragons and other Tolkien-esque things? Where all of the creatures and concepts and races are new and made up and weird?

fwiw I kinda liked the Chevy Chase doc, thought it was fairly frank, and watching it I got an impression of a guy who’s a kneejerk dickhead. When you watch him evade a question or toss an insult, it feels like an instinctual cope. Doesn’t excuse his horseshit but shades it. (1/2)

I'll be honest. I don't care if proposing articles of impeachment is an empty gesture that will ultimately die in the Republican controlled congress, I want Dems to do it anyway. I want them to put political pressure on their opposing party even if it's doomed to fail.

I support RJ if he wants to make different stuff, or do another Star War, develop more TV, whatever, but I’d also be happy if he pops out one of these bad boys every few years. Each one is excellent, each one is distinct, and Daniel Craig is just fucking fabulous.
