My wife is an EU cit. So I'm a chronic text-based journalism poster who used to live their life on Twitter and had somehow got a large number of followers next to my name. Helpful for work, lots of stories, I could make news go viral. Anyway as I test I slightly re-engaged with various platforms this week. Vibes results:

It needs to be said as plainly as possible: Ending ILR & dual citizenship would push millions of *current* UK residents onto uncertain visas & ever-changing, outrageous salary thresholds. It'd tear millions of families apart overnight and should be pushed back on in the strongest possible terms.

Retrospectively removing indefinite leave to remain would be immoral and economically damaging. It would tear families apart. Attacking it as ‘potentially illegal’ is completely beside the point. Argue with the (awful) idea. Don’t try ’well, actually you can’t do that’.

There'll be a lot of arguments in the coming weeks about whether this policy is workable, economic costs and legality etc. It would be good to see mainstream politics argue first and foremost that it is morally repugnant to en masse uproot the lives and rights of potentially millions in the UK.

Today Oxford Street was transformed into a traffic-free celebration giving Londoners and visitors a glimpse of the world-class high street it could become ⤵️

This came to mind after @murphyniallgla.bsky.social's brilliant Glasgow Doors Open Days #GDODF2025 talk last night, marking the 850th anniversary of the city. Which crammed so much into one hour - including the many architectural connections to US cities.

Through Glasgow eyes this is a really, really weird find. And I honestly thought it was an AI generated image at first. The Wyandotte Building in Columbus, Ohio (built 1898). Like someone made a skyscraper out of the Glasgow tenement.

Telegram channels reporting that there are roughly 110 Russian drones in the sky over Ukraine right now, with five missile-carrying Tu-95 bombers also airborne. Two explosions - likely drones being shot out of the sky - heard already in Dnipro tonight.

Whether it's: 🚗 congestion 💰 being locked into costly car-dependency 🌇 monopolisation of limited, valuable street space ⚠️ toxic, carcinogenic road-water run-off None of these are small inconveniences. And all part of the reason we need to support alternatives to car travel everywhere we can.

The Embankment cycleway (CS3) in London was purposefully built to be wider than was usual in order to future proof it. Some said it would hardly be used. Now there’s a decent case for widening it further. Induced demand is real.
