As educators, cycling instructors are making a big difference. Last week offered a chance for instructors from across Scotland to gather in Stirling for a day of learning, celebration and reflection on the impact of their work. Thanks to everyone who was able to take part!

Glenn Lyons, Mott MacDonald Professor of Future Mobility at the University of West of England, addresses the #CyclingScotlandConf, arguing for investment that drives demand, citing immediate impact of street improvements and new safe cycling networks across the UK.

"This is a call to arms to prevent ill health. Cycling is part of prevention: we need ambitious vision, and walking and cycling to be the norm". Jillian Evans of NHS Grampian, highlights the public health issues prevalent in Scotland and the essential role of active travel in tackling this.

Cab Sec for Transport, Fiona Hyslop MSP, highlights how safe, connected infrastructure is leading to increases in cycling, and announces #BikeabilityScotland cycle training having reached half a million pupils since 2011, with 14 local authorities now delivering on-road training in 100% of schools.

Dundee City Council leader Cllr Mark Flynn welcomes delegates to the #CyclingScotlandConf: "The benefits of cycling are very clear and investing in everyday cycling can only bring positive outcomes for people. Healthier lives, supporting business and bringing a better standard of life for everyone".

The Embankment cycleway (CS3) in London was purposefully built to be wider than was usual in order to future proof it. Some said it would hardly be used. Now there’s a decent case for widening it further. Induced demand is real.
