1. London Underground station flooding has reportedly been reduced by around 90% thanks to a group of engineers: beavers. After conservationists reintroduced a family of beavers into a nearby city park, the animals built dams and restored wetlands that now absorb and slow floodwater naturally.

Part of the reason for us on the left to be suspicious of such soft-power is precisely because it puts capitalist overlords in a position to threaten mass death when they don't get their way. It's wild to see the capitalist overlords in fact inflicting the mass death and be unbothered by it!

Yes important to note as well that the doing away of USAID hasn't actually done anything to prevent the kinds of things we oppose, for example USAID complicity in the genocide of Gaza due to Samantha Power's willingness to support Biden's decisions was simply transferred to new bodies.

This is totally unacceptable and a breach of civilian control over FDNY. The chief who allowed this (or the firefighters who did it without their permission) should be sanctioned.

Under two different presidents from two different parties, Israel has been intentionally assassinating and killing not just Palestinians, Arabs, and Iranians but also those with American citizenship. Abu Akleh, Asad, Ozturk, Musallet, and the names keep piling up. Does anyone in DC care?

also, the progressiveness of the tax code is somewhat downstream of pre-tax inequality. if two countries have the same progressive income tax code, but one of them is more unequal pre-tax, that country will show up as having more progressive taxes, per bezo's measure

Very good thread, also will say the obvious that even if it were somehow true that the number of goods under discussion was "small" this would not be an argument against implementing a ban on their import. In fact it would remove the argument that it would be difficult.

Pedophilia is a plank of the Republican Party, a very real policy goal that they work towards on a consistent basis, from the President to the primary electorate. The Republican Party's countless exposed sexual predators simply represent the party's view, which is that children should be molested.

A true fact about Trump's stock trading- I ran the numbers and Trump traded up to ~$700 million in stock in Q1 of 2026. All 535 Members of Congress made a total of ~$635 million worth of trades in 2025. So Trump bought and sold more stock in 3 months than all of Congress put together did last year

RGGI was a good policy when it started because it priced out coal and hurt inefficient gas plants, but it doesn't make much sense when gas for heat goes un-priced in an era of efficient heat pumps. It would be better to run coal power in TN and OH today than build any new gas pipelines
