Ah ... remembering the time, years ago, experimenting with light painting at Port Adelaide with a group of photographer friends. This is a long exposure using burning steel wool. Some poor victim was willing to swing it around on a string while we all took our shots. Great fun 😆

Here's sandhill crane dancing at sunset. Quick cell phone edit, so they'll be a better version someday. Great way to clear my head after an unfathomably stressful week. Winning is hard, especially given the constant losses in our communities. The only way out is through ❤️ 🪶

Here's one from the archives of a tiny and quite fuzzy longhorn beetle (Lophopogonius crinitus) that I found in my backyard. It's the only species in its genus. I haven't seen one since, which isn't surprising given that they're virtually invisible on bark. 🐙🌿📷

These cases are nightmares. Many people had removal proceedings “administratively closed” for years; the case is off the docket and the person can stay indefinitely. Now, suddenly, ICE is restarting them. And if they miss a physical letter, they might get ordered deported without their knowledge.

Leopards are one of the apex predators in Africa and we were thrilled to have a couple encounters. Unlike lions, they are solitary animals and can drag a prey that’s twice their body weight up into a tree. This male had just finished a large meal of zebra and was resting in the shade.

Just a reminder, that possibly the oldest piece of palaeoart dates to the Neolithic. The petroglyphs of horned characters with trumpets, recorded on the same rock as a ornithischian footprints (Zagaje Formation) in Poland, might be an early reconstruction of the Jurassic tracemaker.

I’m used to photographing a lot of small birds where we live, so I was hoping to see some bigger ones on our trip to South Africa. This one qualifies! Ostriches can be 9 feet tall, and this male seemed to be well aware of how impressive he looked!

A Powerful Owlet in a Brisbane park. When it's warm they'll sit high and you get a better look at those impressive talons. These juveniles practice hunting skills by 'attacking' leaves, bark and unwieldy looking sticks they've snapped off mid-flight.

It's been an eventful month for a battle over the fate of a controversial plan to save spotted owls by killing hundreds of thousands of other owls. This week the Senate voted to OPPOSE a GOP resolution that would have overturned the plan.
