Aside from the statutory construction issues, I don't see any constitutional barrier in principle for why California can't prosecute a person in California bribing POTUS, or the Secretary of Agriculture or an FBI agent or whoever, even if they couldn't prosecute a sitting POTUS for accepting it.

Nihilism is political. We infer "political" as "partisan" but that misses the large number of Americans who don't fit into any party. This confusion also makes us incapable of really understanding our adversaries.

When rape isn't considered political, but being forced to carry a pregnancy after one is. When historic wealth gaps between race groups aren't political, but trying to combat them is.

I've said it before, but I think the current spree of memekillings is the product of an ideological transition. It's hard to parse because it's rapidly evolving. It's clearly derived from far right precursors, but it hasn't progressed to coherence yet.
