Of course, there are economists and psychologists whose work looks at the world from a social/systemic perspective rather than an individual one, just as there are sociologists who do things the other way around. But the disciplines center on different sides of the individual/social divide.

I was in a meeting recently where someone was wondering aloud about why sociology has faced more political scrutiny than econ and psych. And I think it's that sociology centers the social (i.e., systemic) causes of human outcomes, thus directly challenging the individualism on which fascism thrives.

There's been no deescalation, no pivot, no softening of tone. The masked death squads still roam the streets terrorizing brown people and all the "race traitors" trying to watch out for them. Any other claim, any other attempt to "lower the temperature" - by members of either party - is PR bullshit.

I miss whoever-it-was on xitter that kindly suggested going to bed at around now-ish each night. So I guess I'm tryna be that person, for one night at least.

I have been of the opinion for about five years now that we are all mostly clinging to the *idea* of social media. But that it has not existed, as we mean it, since Jack sold Twitter. The minute capital lined up to fold social media into its technocratic political consolidation, it stopped existing.

I want you to say this out loud to yourself: The children we have put into a concentration camp are on strike.

It is absolutely by design. Theyr’e tired of white people sympathizing with Black and brown folks. That’s why they’re so mad and confused in Minnesota. All the nice white people yelling at them to get fucked. It’s like their dads are yelling at them in a bathrobe. They can’t cope.

Similarly, these killings have rightfully gained all of our attention, but ICE and DHS abuses run so much deeper. Recent investigations by ACLU and The Guardian just found that ICE detainees are being systematically brutalized and sexually abused. ICE invading cities is just the tip of the iceberg.

I keep waiting for this, it's a gaping lack in all this talk. They talk about how bad it is that ICE is kidnapping people but don't say a word about rescuing the people who have been kidnapped.

I've been studying the history of US, and indeed, global policing my whole career and I can't make it more clear to law makers that this isn't a bastardization of policing, it is its purest form and logical conclusion. The impunity, militarization, deference, legitimacy, racial targeting, etc.

I remember where I was when scrolling twitter (August 2014) & reading about the uprising in Ferguson MO after a cop killed Mike Brown. I feel similarly rn about the murder of Alex Pretti. I think yesterday & today will reverberate into the future. All love to the people of Minneapolis.
