I wrote a short story called "A Bladder Full" that was based on nightmares where I can't find a place to pee and real life fears that I can't find a place to pee, then it makes it worse. This story is basically my waking and sleeping life in horror form. #HorrorWritersChat

Mine would be in isolated wood, wandering pathways with ancient banks in which tree roots wrap around each other, reach out to the passer-by. Roots which appear so muscular, so human, you expect the tree to shift and rise, walk with you (v. much like my actual hikes!) #HorrorWritersChat

Not really. But in Phengaris there are extended drug-fuelled hallucinations that could pass for dreamscapes. They involve human-crane hybrids, balloon monsters and a sonic death museum. I think you need just a sliver of very strong reality to make the scape come to life. #HorrorWritersChat

My grad school final project may not have been very good, but the way the final rewrite of the conclusion combined body horror, hallucinations, religious horror, and the rebellion of the earth itself into a true, dying, yet beautiful metaphysical hellscape I’m still proud of #horrorwriterschat

#HorrorWritersChat Hallo! I am an old fart in Brooklyn, NY, and I write weird shit. Scariest dream...I don't know if this counts but the most persistent and distressing dream I have is being lost in a big box store unable to find what I need, or my $, or my child, or the exit, etc.

#HorrorWritersChat Horror dreamscapes feature in my stories. Dreams are either: 1. Messages from the subconscious. 2. A communication tool used by those with the ability to transmit messages to those with whom they have a connection. 3. A real place. Dreams and nightmares result in actions.

#HorrorWritersChat The one story I've really used dreams is Elders of The Ground (in Dirt You Shall Become) my Hate Letter to ground elder (a weed to those of you who don't garden much). It's a mix of nightmare, obsession, and 'is it really happening?' that spurs the MC into reckless behavior.

Oh yes, oh #horrorwriterschat, it’s always a dreamscape. Breaking and bending and clashing and nightmares and fantasies is the horror. To me, losing contact with reality is both glorious and awful, and on that razor-blade the tension turns. Settings should be horror, not just scary places.
