Boy, Return to Silent Hill really does away with any attempt at subtext. Rare is the video game adaptation that makes the game seem restrained and thoughtful by comparison. Also a good case study re: the problems with doing a painfully faithful adaptation. A mess of bad acting and poor decisions.

First read through of Withered’s follow-up Fractured complete. Somehow both messier and not as messy as expected. Arcs are all there and work, and the central conceit mostly holds up in its current state. Prose is a bit perfunctory in ways I’m not thrilled with, and definitely a few plot twists…1/2

Name a video game you've put 500 hours into. Across myriad releases, FFXII is the likely winner, with Elden Ring, BotW, and TotK as runners up. That said, I still don't think I've hit 500 hours. Between 300 and 400, sure, but past that... nothing comes to mind.
