I had such a great time chatting with @amandamull.bsky.social again! At times like this, we want to know the latest information as it happens — but is that really serving us well? Should we take a step back and just find some trusted sources instead of being glued to our screens?

I think this all the time. Bluesky is as bad as Twitter for this. The basic rule - say things that are true; don't say things that are untrue - is, in my experience, followed far too infrequently. Those who do follow it are like rare gems.

Fun fact: I think this may be the rare example of an actually “Canadian” dish. The Caribbean roti is an Indian-derived dish from the West Indies, but in Toronto you get the East Indian version of the West Indian East Indian derived dish? So: the butter chicken roti may well be a Canadian invention.

While many on social media sites with comical names like "Bluesky" and "Twitter" were fans of the tweet about the moon being haunted, the electronically sent message contained an obvious flaw. If the moon were in fact populated with hostile supernatural entities, a pistol would be of little value.

I’m not sharing this to dunk on this guy at all. It’s a very common POV, one I share in many respects. But it’s also speaking to a relatively narrow slice of what writing is, vocationally. A lot of people whose work entails writing don’t have the luxury of approaching the process like this. +

"you are responsible for every possible way your words may be interpreted" is an expectation, I think, that no one would want applied to themselves, but it seems to be becoming normal on this site. internalizing this is a good way to make yourself crazy.

Not disagreeing with the main point necessarily, but the argument is that there is in fact something problematic with the "God gives you dominion over the earth, go explore and exploit it" ethos. I don’t know if this is right or not. No Kings seems like a big deal. But do opposition movements need leaders? And does a leader of an opposition need to be the kind that appeals across partisan or even intra-partisan divides? Is that possible in 2026? Got no real answers to these questions

Don’t know how true this is, but in the era of the attention economy and “flood the zone” etc., the fact that there isn’t a figure opposed to Trump who also commands respect seems like a problem - i.e. that there isn’t a locus or focal point for opposition. Instead, there is diffuse noise.
