biosolids are the dewatered sewage sludge removed from wastewater. known as cake, even these dewatered biosolids are still 70% water. cake is incinerated safely and efficiently, producing heat and steam that spins a turbine to generate electricity, and ALL the ash is beneficially reused locally.

100 years ago this month, a new word entered dictionaries: smog A portmanteau between "smoke" and "fog," the Weather Bureau used it to describe conditions in the Midwest. Smog wasn't invoked in LA much till the '40s. But even in the '20s "smoke & fog" was a common phrase here.

Just your regular PSA that actor Vincent Price was cool as f*ck: Here he reads Native American student’s poetry in 1967 at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Price established the Vincent Price Awards in Creative Writing for Native students, a stipend that was in place

in 2025 we treated more than 85 billion gallons of water, averaging about 85,000 gallons every 30 seconds. based on our estimated operating expenses last year, the cost of service to manage 30 seconds of flow is about $244 and some change. actual investment. actually interesting.

Trump has this condescending tic of overenunciating when he pushes a particularly big lie, as if he's telling a story to children and trying to hold their attention. He does it a lot in this clip.

Shirley Povich writing in 1962, with the most immaculate burn conceivable of the Redskins awful, vile owner George Preston Marshall, the last NFL owner to insist on an all white roster: "Jim Brown, born ineligible to play for the Redskins, integrated their end zone three times yesterday." RIP WaPo.

Take a minute to really absorb the scale of what you're seeing. This is 'Cueva de los Cristales', the Cave of the Crystals, near the city of Naica in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. The crystals are selenite, a type of gypsum. They formed over the last 1 million years. (đź“·: Javier Trueba, MSF)

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.” That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.
