Highlight of this week’s classroom presentations to grade 5s about the library was when one boy stood up and told me everything I was saying was “too good to be true” and that “That can’t all possibly be free”. Thanks for the great advertising, kid!

While still a teen, Edward James Olmos -- yes the actor -- once fronted a rock/psychedlia band. They were called Eddie James and the Pacific Ocean (cuz nothing's bigger than the Pacific Ocean!) & played the Sunset Strip, including Gazzarri's, in the 1960s. We need a reunion show!

holy crap, solar panels are productive! even in Brooklyn our electric bill for all 2024, for an entire house: $499.29 ($240 of this is the monthly connection charge, so: only $260 for actual electricity) installed in 2018, the panels amortized last year, so now it's just crazy-cheap juice

A bird I only see a few times a year (if that), a Yellow-billed Cuckoo. These birds are one of the few species able to eat hairy caterpillars. Cuckoos have a special stomach lining that prevents the prickly hairs of hairy caterpillars from doing damage to their digestive system.

Seeing the Bill Watterson originals full of pencil lines of stuff that didn’t work, scuffs the eraser didn’t pick up, white out galore and more was something I needed to see to remind myself that nothing is perfect the first go and tweaks need to be made and you’re allowed to try again.
