If Mr. Corman had filmed the "actual" Pit and the Pendulum there would have been mass walk-outs (hard to do in a drive-in).

Archie Goodwin had a habit of tacking an extra twisteroo onto the end of his Creepy Classic adaptations ("Tell-Tale Heart," "The Damned Thing," etc.). As a result, when I eventually read the originals, I would always think "Hey! They cut off the ending!"

The final twist to "Judgement Day", one of the most important stories ever published by EC Comics and comics in general. After the issue ran, EC got tons of letters praising them for the ending and many others denouncing it. To those who disagreed with the story, Gaines told them all to fuck off.

One of the most preposterous and weirdly compelling movies I've ever seen. The poster doesn't say it all, but it says a lot.

The father of Fred Marx, of Hoop Dreams film, was a schoolteacher called before HUAC on the same day as Sondergaard. Because of all the press coverage, his presence was way more publicized than it would have been otherwise, causing crisis w/his job & family. He died of a heart attack at 40.

I wish Mr. Lee's film was better (it's terribleâbut fun)... still, he's the spitting image of that legendary loon (or calculating manipulator... or both).

BTD - Gale Sondergaard - Channeled her striking looks into a string of memorably sinister roles like The Cat and the Canary and surprisingly comedic turns like Never Say Die. She was blacklisted for refusing to cooperate with the HUAC - Here is the letter stating her intentions not to testify.
