An Update: I received an email canceling my contract as a columnist at @startribune.com after sharing this story publicly. (I had written columns past the one-year contract already + been asked to continue on in July).

I talk around this, but I think it's worth saying bluntly based on how some of you seem to be doing. I can't relate to your fear. I have devoted all or nearly all of my adult life to this work. I feel no older, no slower, no less sharp for it. Every day, I wake up with renewed zeal and hatred.
