Big social media platforms have become wired to spread bullshit. The people and organizations who worked to understand why, called out the bullshitters, and tried to push for platform changes to counteract manipulation and address harmful misinformation… have been silenced by an admin powered by bs.

This is frankly obscene. A form of victim blaming. You cannot ethically put a lying machine into a classroom, tell students who have not LEARNED the actual MATERIAL being discussed to interact with it, and then demand that these students determine what is a lie and what is true. Shameful.

Respectfully, the courses in your AI Academy seem designed to push "A.i." use on teachers. I see phrases like "You will leave with AI resources you can use tomorrow." I see no focus on handling cheating and no mention of the cognitive or suicides associated with LLMs. aiinstruction.org

These declines are MASSIVE. And the comparative silence in media coverage is absolutely DAMNING. “Why are ppl always so afraid of crime?” THIS is why. When crime goes up, media trips over itself to report it. Falls to pre-war (!!) levels? Just CRICKETS.

Part of me is glad the story broke this way. If 60 Minutes had aired it as scheduled, it probably would never have been shared beyond 60 Minutes. Because Weiss pulled the story, it is now a major topic of national discussion.

Just watched the whole 60 Minutes CECOT episode. It's a pretty standard segment for 60 Minutes, taking something that's been reported on in other publications and formats and telling it to a wider audience with first person, on camera accounts. It's not earth shattering, but it is newsworthy.

The most impressive thing about Bari is her ability to violate ethical principles while indignantly claiming to defend them.

this is, so we're clear, the exact path the media took in countries like Hungary and Russia that stumbled ass first into permanent autocratic rule

CBS broadcasts over public airwaves. If it is spiking stories to run cover for one political party or the current administration, which by the subtext of Bari Weiss' own admission is what happened, its broadcasting license should be questioned CBS is not Fox News or MS Now. Public airwaves matter

really cannot be emphasized enough that bari weiss has literally never done journalism. i don’t mean that in the pejorative sense. i mean that in the “has never performed the job she was hired to do” sense

I am sure the 60 Minutes report on CECOT was very well done, but what makes the decision to kill it even more damning is that CBS was hardly out on a limb on this story. It has been extremely well documented and reported by many journalists.

Imagine if just by refusing to comment, you could stop any story from running. You would literally never find out anything unflattering about anybody. It amounts to asking people for their blessing to publish your reporting about them.
