With a tagline like "A New Film", how can it fail?

A lot of lawful gun owners saw themselves in Alex Pretti. He was doing everything right.

The Trump administration said, flatly, that people shouldn't have guns at protests. Every anti-gun group has all those statements saved to their hard drives now. They made life much more difficult for the 2A folks. And they know it.

I'm not saying they're gonna become Democrats, they aren't. But even if Republicans don't think Democrats really have a right to own guns, they are smart enough to know that Bessent's logic will absolutely be thrown back in their face when Democrats next try to pass basic gun regulations.

So when Bessent goes on TV and says that it's just ludicrous that someone would have a *handgun* at a *protest*, a lot of Republicans hear him saying that he doesn't respect the one right that they actually believe in. And suddenly, they start seeing the other ways the administration is lying.

I've made no secret that I think the current interpretation of the second amendment is far too expansive, but under the law Pretti was entirely within his rights to have a concealed handgun. Indeed, those are rights that Republicans have been pushing beyond all reason and common sense.

I think the thing that killed the administration was that they were so gung-ho to find a reason that Pretti deserved to die that they accidentally declared that that the second amendment isn't real.
