in fact i am very steadfast in my opinion that you should never try to make your magnum opus. not now. not ever. you should never chase a masterpiece. yknow steinbeck wanted east of eden to be his masterpiece. insisted it would be. you know what it was? a very good soap opera.

a masterpiece gives you a lot to talk about, and art that's "just okay" gives you a lot to talk about. the real bane is art that is "Good". art that simply sticks the landing with very little else to discuss. this is why you should strive to fuck up a lot.
