Looked up the Academy cast on Insta, and cannot help but notice that Karim Diane, who is West African and is widely perceived as queer (IDK how he identifies, it's actually none of my business) is getting the brunt of abuse from Trekkies.

I think setting it after The Burn & delving into what I wish Discovery had - show how Starfleet became increasingly more reactionary even before the Burn, and how Starfleet can reignite its flame after failing to live up to its values by letting the youth change it - is the show's best move.

When I say Starfleet Academy gets Star Trek, THIS is what I mean. The best Star Trek, IMO, is one that showcases that Starfleet and the Federation is not a utopia, but instead a future where we continually reach for a better future together, and help each other to do by uplifting our uniqueness.

I love Starfleet Academys theme of the kids challenging the notion that Starfleet is an inherently good institution by virtue of its liberal progressive legacy alone but instead must change through accountability for its past harm & by refusing to create a homogenized culture that subsumes diversity

Not an exaggeration at all to say that the feeling in Minneapolis is that the entire metro area is being treated as occupied territory by federal agents. Impossible to overstate how overwhelmingly people here do not like it. This does not feel sustainable.
