R Mason Thomas said he “wanted to join the party” watching his teammates get seven sacks in the first half while he was on the sideline serving a suspension for targeting. He came in after halftime, got an early sack then closed the game with another one for a safety to clinch OU’s win vs. Auburn.

Brent Venables says he wasn’t able to find Jackson Arnold after the game but tried to find him. Adds it was “crazy” on the field after the final whistle.

On Courtland Guillory’s learning experience today against Cam Coleman, Brent Venables says with a smile: “All the great ones will have a day that, man, you’d like to have back — want to go somewhere and hide…. but this will help him. He’s a really tough kid. He’s really prideful…. He’ll be alright.”

Re: Isaiah Satgena’s touchdown, Brent Venables says “we didn’t substitute. We were on the field. We asked the official if we’re lined up, on the ball, everything’s good and legal — so yeah.”

Hugh Freeze was asked about the potential illegal sub deception on Oklahoma’s first touchdown: “I better be quiet.”

Hugh Freeze just referred to Oklahoma as “one of the best pass-rushing teams in the country.” Sooners sacked Jackson Arnold 10 times, a program record. OU last had nine sacks in 2020 against Kansas.

Per Bob Stoops on the OU radio broadcast, this was a deceptive play the Sooners worked on in practice all week. Paid off. Ben Arbuckle and John Mateer seemed to look like they knew they got away with something there against Auburn.
