Strange how “maybe we could make it safer to bike” is somehow translated into Every trip across the planet must be made by bike by everyone in every situation.

We need more of these in cities. Arid climates can use these to store water for the dry seasons and wet climates can use these to prevent the flooding of buildings. Any town or city that does this will increase local biodiversity.

DYK? Since the demise of Greyhound, a lot of companies have taken over bus routes across Canada, although there are still far too many gaps. There is no official travel guide, but @seanyyz.bsky.social has created a GIS map of routes, and BusBud.com offer reservations for many of these services.

If you zoom in on where the path crosses the street, you'll see some basic design changes could have possibly prevented this. A raised, continuous bike path that was the top layer, combined with no curvature of the car infrastructure until AFTER the path would have demanded motorist attention.

As we all know, our leaders are great at “informed decision making”. That’s great, because the research is very clear: 1. more destinations by bike -> more biking 2. more safe infrastructure -> more accessible destinations 3. more bikes -> less congestion 4. removing car lanes -> less congestion 🧵

In a 30 km/hr (20 mph) city, traffic lights and stop signs are entirely unnecessary. At such speed, with a few road markings, traffic situations can be solved with eye contact; allowing everybody to get where they are going more safely, more quietly, and—ironically—more quickly.
